Local team second at World Series

August 20, 2004 - The Ice fastpitch softball team from Sulphur Springs finished as runner-up at the USSSA World Series for 11-and-under girls in Garland this summer, and four team members were chosen for the All-World Team.

Taylor Clifton, Shelby Ferrell, Mac Morgan and Ariel Spataro were all named to the honorary team. Morgan was also chosen as the Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament.

The Ice team is coached by Harold Kizer, Bill Spataro, Jim Speaker and Randy Knight.

In addition, four of the players, Baylee Speaker, Clifton, Spataro and Morgan, were invited to the Nike Softball Camp (ages 11-17) at Colorado State-Pueblo.

Thunderwolves head coach Shane Showalter said, "the four girls from Ice were by far the most outstanding players" at the camp.

They also were some of the top award winners. Morgan won fastest throw and MVP of her group, Spataro won most accurate pitch, Clifton was the fastest runner in group 2 and named MVP of the camp.
