NH players honored for academics; two Cats on metroplex power team

April 22, 2004 -- Three North Hopkins players were named recently to the Academic All-State team, and a pair of Sulphur Springs powerlifters were tabbed All-Area by the Dallas Morning News.

Academic All-State

North Hopkins seniors Lindsey Horne, Jake Mannis and Michael James were all named to the academic team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

Horne, point guard for the Lady Panthers, has a 93.34 GPA. James, the Panthers' leading scorer and rebounder, has a 98.1 GPA, while Mannis has a 97.5 grade point average.

Other area players on the team include: Greenville's Laura Ellington, Denison's Sara Haney, Tristian Jeffery and Geoff Wall of Cooper.


After their state tournament performances, Sulphur Springs senior Leo Wisniewski and freshman Bill Pryor were both named to the DMN's All-Area powerlifting team.

Wisniewski is a two-time state champion, winning the 275-pound division with a total lift of 1,680 pounds. Pryor placed fourth in the 114-pound division with an 880-pound total.
