Alba-Golden 6, Como-Pickton 5

COMO -- Como-Pickton, particularly its seniors, will look back to the first two innings of Tuesday night's 6-5 loss to Alba-Golden and wonder what might have been.

What once looked like a promising season full of playoff hopes turned into a nightmare, as the Lady Eagles committed 10 errors in their 6-5 loss to the Lady Panthers.

AGHS took advantage of four miscues in the first inning to plate five runs and added another in the second on another error for a 6-0 lead.

Christy Hunt (10-7) did all she could to keep her team in the game, as she allowed only two earned runs, none in the final five innings. She gave up five hits and struck out five.

CPHS (12-7, 8-5 District 14-2A) got on the scoreboard in the second, as Ashley Darby scored on a passed ball after drawing a walk and moving to third on Kayla Smith's double.

Two third inning runs cut the lead in half. Chelsea Harrison doubled, moved to third on Taylor Moss' single and scored on Brittney Wright's RBI ground out. Moss stole second for one of her three thefts and crossed the plate on Kelli Harmon's sacrifice fly to center.

The Lady Eagles drew within one in the fourth, when Shannon Russell doubled and moved to third on Darby's hit. Russell scored on Hunt's RBI single.

Wright singled in the seventh, but CPHS was unable to score the tying run.
