Weaver weaves no-hitter

April 14, 2004 -- MILLER GROVE -- Frank Weaver threw a no-hitter, while Lee Roy Stracener's solo home run in the sixth broke open the game, as Miller Grove shut out Celeste 4-0 Tuesday.

James Weaver added a three-run blast later in the sixth, while Randy Rainey and Brandon Stunkard each added hits in the inning.

Frank Weaver faced 23 batters, just two over the minimum, striking out 16, walking one and hitting a batter. He struck out the first 12 Blue Devil hitters he faced.

Frank Weaver and John Mark Barnard both had no hitters going into the sixth, before Stracener's homer. Stunkard followed with a single up the middle, and Frank Weaver reached on an error. James Weaver hit his three-run shot over the center-field fence.

Saltillo 3, Yantis 2

SALTILLO -- Trey Thompson struck out three and walked two in six innings of work, while Cory Byrd went 2-for-3 at the plate, as Saltillo escaped with a one-run win over Yantis.

Thompson improved to 2-0 on the season, while Collin Garmon struck out the side in the seventh for the save. The Lions improved to 6-1 in district play.
