Panthers score 13 late to run-rule Yantis

April 9, 2004 -- YANTIS -- The North Hopkins Panthers used a 13-run outburst in the fifth and sixth innings Thursday to complete a comeback victory against Yantis, 15-3.

Chad Darlin and Roy Warren both homered for the Panthers, who improved to 15-7 overall, 7-1 in district play, setting up what will likely be a showdown for the district championship against Detroit next Friday in Birthright.

Against Yantis, six Panthers had multi-hit games, led by Darlin who went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Sean Wilson, Jake Cockrum and Michael Walker all had three hits, with Wilson scoring three runs and driving in three, Cockrum adding three RBIs and Walker driving in a pair of runs.

Stevie Crocker went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Heath Abbott went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

Josh McPherson picked up the win by giving up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five in four innings. Cockrum pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit and one strikeout.
