|McDaniel's 88 is season best for Lady Cats|
|From Staff Reports|
April 6, 2004 -- MOUNT VERNON - Sulphur Springs freshman Whitney McDaniel shot under 90 for the first time in a varsity tournament, leading the Lady Cats' golf team to a season-low score of 374 to capture first place at the Lady Tiger Invitational, hosted by Mount Vernon at Cypress Springs Country Club.
Four of the five SSHS linksters shot their season-best scores. That propelled the Lady Cats to shoot 33 strokes better than their previous low of 407.
McDaniel shot an 88, which placed her second individually. It was the fourth time this season she has finished in the top 10 and the third time she has been among the top four golfers.
Junior Valerie Walker fired a 92, Elizabeth Stump shot a 96 and Faith Harry added a 98.
Freshman Kylie Littlefield, playing varsity for the first time this season, shot a 99, while junior Brooke Wilson had a 108. Every golfer with the exception of Wilson shot a personal best.
"It's the first time many of the girls broke 100," SSHS coach Kell Clopton said. "We won district last year, and if we have scores like this, we can win it again.
"It's going to be a pretty tight race going into district. McKinney North has a good team, and so does Sherman."
The Lady Wildcats will compete in the District 11-4A tournament April 12-13.
