Local groups scaring up special activities for Halloween

Oct. 17, 2008 - Several local civic groups and churches annually offer special activities as an alternative to door-to-door trick or treating. And for those who are wondering, yes, Halloween will be observed on Friday, Oct. 31 in Sulphur Springs.

Listed below are some of the upcoming Halloween activities to watch for:

Friday, Oct. 17

Sulphur Bluff School PTO Halloween Carnival begins at 5:30 p.m. this evening, Oct. 17, with serving of stew, Frito pie and desserts. Game booths and the Mrs. Tubb's Country Store open at 6 p.m. Game tickets are 50 cents each, and booths cost from one to four tickets each. Raffle tickets are $1 each and can be purchased from students and PTO members in advance or at the carnival.

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-25

Haunted Woods Trail and Stew Supper in Arbala will be presented Oct. 24, 25 and 31. The fun begins at 5 p.m. at Arbala Community Center with serving of a stew supper. The hayride and Haunted Woods Trail start at the Arbala Community Center at dark each evening and will continue until midnight. Cost for both stew and 1/2-mile trail: $10 adults and $5 for children 10 and under; stew dinner only, $5 adults and $3 children; and trail only, $7 adults and $3 children. Thursday, Oct. 30

Sulphur Springs Health & Rehab's Annual Halloween Carnival will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the health and rehabilitatino center, 411 Airport Rd (next to tHopkins County Memorial Hospital). Cost: 5 tickets for $1. Activities: dunking booth, silent auction, pie throwing, face painting, duck pond, moon walk, cake walk, ring toss, fishing game, pencil pull, dart throwing, seek and find, special appearances by "Elvis," more. Food: Hot, homemade camp fire stew, popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, etc. All proceeds go toward residents' Christmas fund. Contact: Leanetta Pryor, 903-885-7668.

Halloween, Oct. 31

Trunk Or Treat Will Be conducted from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the parking lot of the Church of the Nazarene, 1300 South League St. (First Baptist Church also normally sponsors Truck Or Treat at the practice ball field on Oak Avenue just south of the church.)
