Grand opening set Mon. for Main Street
From Staff Reports
Oct. 2, 2008 - The long, hard hours of planning and preparation to revamp downtown will be richly rewarded Monday when the city's new Main Street is officially opened.
The grand opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with an official ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.
The event, of course, is open to the public, and city officials and others are expected to make remarks. Members of the Sulphur Springs Downtown Business Alliance, who City Manager Marc Maxwell has credited with "really getting the ball rolling" on the project, will also be on hand, as will Chamber of Commerce President Meredith Caddell.
The redesigned street features wider sidewalks, about 20 magnolia and red oak trees, period street lights with connections for synchronized Christmas lights and speakers, new benches, a water feature and many other touches the have given the streetscape an ambiance that is already attracting prospective new business owners.
