Two SSHS teams take 4th at state UIL competition

From Staff Reports

May 5, 2008 - Sulphur Springs High School concluded its 2007-2008 academic University Interscholastic League season this weekend, with one student and two teams ranked among the top five or better in the state.

"The students did an outstanding job," said Gina Wilder, SSHS UIL coordinator. "They have worked so hard, and I am so very proud of them. Congratulate them if you see them."

Overall, eight SSHS students competed at the State Academic UIL Meet, held May 1-3 at The University of Texas in Austin.

Ryan Clark scored high enough at regionals in accounting to earn a trip to the state meet, as did Zach Mahand in ready writing. While Mahand did not place in the top six, Clark took fifth in the state individually. And both were members of teams that brought home fourth place honors from Austin.

Clark was part of the fourth-place accounting team, which also included Crysel Garcia, John Latham and Ayanna Smith. The accounting team was ranked fourth in the state.

Lyndsi Bible, Sarah Fox and Emily Mason joined Zach Mahand as part of the spelling and vocabulary team that took first place at regionals. They went on this weekend to be ranked fourth-best in Texas.
