Committee seeking recipes for cookbook to raise money for veterans memorial
From Staff Reports
March 14, 2008 - In honor of the many local men and women who have served their country in the past, present and future, the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial Committee is compiling recipes for a Hopkins County Veterans Memorial Cookbook.
Recipes will be collected over the next six months and may be dedicated in honor or in memory of a veteran.
But the hardback, three-ring binder collection will be more than just a cookbook, according to Elizabeth McGraw, head of the cookbook committee.
"There'll be 16 pages of veterans' news, flag etiquette, and the National Anthem," she explained. "And we're hoping for more than 500 recipes to be submitted."
The book will sell for $20, with all proceeds going towards the construction of the Veterans Memorial to be located on the downtown square in Sulphur Springs.
"Our freedoms are not free," said McGraw. "Help us honor those who make it possible."
The Cookbook Committee ask that all submissions be typed or printed, one per page, and mailed to: Veterans Memorial Cookbook, P.O. Box 1250, Sulphur Springs, Tx. 75483.
Recipes may also be dropped off at the Senior Citizen's Center, 150 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive; The Shipping Zone, 525 Gilmer St.; or Texas Art and Frame at 206 Church St.
