Local woman schedules organizational meeting Wednesday for ‘Wives of Dairymen’ group

From Staff Reports

March 4, 2008 - A local woman will host a session Wednesday afternoon in downtown Mount Vernon for women associated with the dairy industry.

Martha Hare is hoping to generate enough interest to form a group called Wives of Dairymen, which as it’s name suggests targets wives of dairy men. However, all women connected with the dairy industry, including sisters, daughters-in-law, mothers, etc. in the East Texas area are encouraged to join the group.

Wednesday’s meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in downtown Mount Vernon at Century Room, located south of First National Bank.

Hare sent letters to a number of dairy wives and women to inform them about the group and meeting, but in no way was able to reach or identify all women connected to the East Texas dairy industry.

The Wednesday session is planned as an organizational meeting to gauge interest in forming the group.

Those who are unable to attend but would like to be involved are encouraged to contact Hare and let her know of their interest. If enough interest is shown, another meeting could be scheduled on another day to better accommodate those who want to participate.

The purpose of the group is to allow women connected to the industry, regardless which milk company they deal with, to show unity and promote a positive image of the dairy business.

Anyone interested in attending the meeting, as well as those and women seeking more information, are encouraged to contact Hare at 903-632-5306 or 903-439-9011.
