Tactical squad aids in Delta Co. drug raid
From Staff Reports
March 3, 3008 - The Sulphur Springs-Hopkins County Special Response Team Friday aided Delta County Sheriff's Department in a drug raid at a residence where a man and woman were arrested on felony charges.
The arrests were made in connection with the seizure of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia at the residence.
The bust marked the conclusion of several days' investigation into narcotic activity at the FM 71 west residence in Delta County. Delta County officers initiated the raid after obtaining enough information to get a search warrant for the property, according to a release provided by Delta County Sheriff G.R. Wood and Chief Deputy David Short.
The warrant was executed at about 9 a.m. Friday by Delta County sheriff's officers and the Sulphur Springs-Hopkins County Special Response Team, which includes officers from Hopkins County Sheriff's Office and Sulphur Springs Police Department.
Officers located chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine, as well as substantial amounts of the narcotic and currency. Officers anticipate filing paperwork within the week to seize the currency and some vehicles that were on the property.
Ruby Niki Fults, 38, and Phillip Kennedy, 40, were taken to jail for possession or transport of chemicals with intent to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
The arrests are just two of several narcotic-related arrests Delta County Sheriff's Office and the Eighth Judicial District Attorney's Office "has accomplished on the local war against drugs," according to Wood.
The Delta County sheriff and chief deputy both extended thank to the "for all their expertise in making Delta County a safer place."
