June 20, 2008 - Sulphur Springs students needing to make up classes or who wish to advance a grade level will have five opportunities to take credit by exam (CBE) tests.
"Students generally try to take these during the spring and into the summer," explained Randy Reed, assistant superintendent for the Sulphur Springs Independent School District. "Students can regain lost credit or accelerate."
Students taking the CBEs are required to make a 70 or above on the tests in order to earn grade credit for failed courses.
Students who have had no prior instruction in the course must make a 90 or above on the test for advancement.
In order to take the tests, students must register with their school counselor at least 30 days prior to the testing dates.
To take a CBE class on Wednesday, Aug. 6, students have until Monday, July 7, to contact their school counselor.
The registration deadline to take a CBE class on Thursday, Dec. 11, is Nov. 11.
To take one of the tests Tuesday, March 10, 2009, students must register no later than Feb. 6, 2009.
The deadline for the June 10, 2009, test is May 11, 2009; for the June 11, 2009, test, the deadline is May 12, 2009.
"While these are the set days, we do try to work with the students if they are not able to take them on these days," Superintendent Patsy Bolton noted. "If they are out of pocket, say on a church mission trip or something, we'll try to work with the individual as situations come up."
