Local dairyman Spencer named to DFA board

April 13, 2008 - Jerry Spencer of Sulphur Springs recently was elected to the board of directors of Dairy Farmers of America, the nation's largest milk marketing cooperative.
Spencer was one of eight new directors elected to the board. Thirty other board members were re-elected to new terms on the cooperative's governing panel.
Spencer has been in the dairy business since 1970, and currently farms 476 acres and milks 175 cows. He is the third vice chairman of DFA's Southeast Area Council and serves on the board of directors for the Texas Association of Dairymen, Texas Beef Council and National Cattlemen's Beef Association. He is a former director of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council and is a graduate of Texas Tech University.
He and his wife, Tonda, a sixth grade reading teacher at Sulphur Springs Middle School, have three grown sons.
