Oct 18, 2007 - Sulphur Springs Independent School District will host a special sports day Friday at the high school gymnasium, continuing a tradition that has lasted for at least 20 years.
Students from SSISD as well as Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District will take part in the annual event.
We will have around 50 kids participating this year, said SSHS special services teacher Jeana McQueen.
Members of two school organizations — the Key Club and cheerleaders — will help ensure the events run smoothly and assisting students as needed. Two community groups will also be assisting with donations. Pilot Club is donating medals to award to the top students, and Kiwanis Club members are providing hamburgers for the students to enjoy.
The day's events will include a scooter race, a bouncing ball race, jump rope, football throw, cone race, long jump, sit-ups and basketball free throw.
Special Sports Day activities at 8:30 a.m. and continue through about noon.
