SSHS band advances to UIL area contest
From Staff Reports
Oct 17, 2007 - The Sulphur Springs High School Band earned First Division ratings from all judges Tuesday at the Region IV University Interscholastic League Marching Contest in Mount Pleasant.
The band now advances to the area level of competition with its showing.
Sulphur Springs was one of only three 4A bands in the region to earn the First Division rating. Judges appreciated the band’s show, “Hemisphere,” for its marching difficulty and musical complexity, according to SSHS Band Director Charles McCauley, who praised his students’ performance.
It was definitely the best performance of the year, so far, McCauley said. We are really proud of the way the kids performed. The judges called a very difficult contest, and our kids rose to the occasion. We have great kids.
The band’s next competition is Saturday, Oct. 20, when they will travel to Bossier City, La., to defend the Grand Championship title at the Parkway Marching contest.
Then, the band will compete at the Area C UIL Marching Contest in Mesquite on Saturday, Oct. 27. Performance time for Mesquite was not known at press time.
