Tuesday’s Senior Expo is all about health

Oct 15, 2007 - A variety of health care professionals will be on hand Tuesday during Hopkins County Marketing Association’s 2007 Senior Expo.
The doors at New Beginnings Fellowship church, located at 155 North Jackson St., will open at 9 a.m. A slew of speakers will be on hand to discuss topics which may be of particular interest to senior citizens.
Beginning at 9:15 a.m. will be information from a pulmonologist. Then, Dr. Robert Shackleford will speak at 9:30 a.m. about orthopedics. Shackleford is a surgeon at Sulphur Springs Orthopedics.
At 9:45 a.m., Rita Moore with Ark-Tex Council of Governments will talk to seniors about Medicare and the various benefits available.
At 10 a.m. Randal Voss with Voss Allstate Insurance will talk about Alzheimer’s, followed at 10:15 a.m. by a program from Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
From 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., visitors to the Senior Expo can enjoy live entertainment and music by the Camp Fire Cowboys.
Beginning at 11:15 Legacy Corp. will present information on “vital stem therapy.” Total Care will have a representative talk at 11:30 a.m., and Blue Bonnet Hospice will follow at 11:45 a.m. with “Hospice 101.”
Throughout the event, which concludes around noon, free health screenings and information will be offered for cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, height/weight, body composition and oxygen levels. Flu and pneumonia shots will also be available.
Door prizes will be given away between speakers, so those participating are encouraged to sign up at each table to get their names in for the prizes.
