Oct. 4, 2007 - The 2008 Hopkins County Relay For Life campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society gets moving Friday morning.
Relay Committee members will be hosting a kickoff rally from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the downtown square, and teams planning to participate in next year’s event will want to take advantage of a special early registration fee during the kickoff.
Teams registering tomorrow can sign up for only $15. Teams registering after Oct. 5 will be required to pay a $35 registration fee.
This year’s Relay For Life theme is “Cancer Is a Family Affair."
The 2007 Relay drew 254 cancer survivors and 45 teams. Organizers hope to have as many, if not more, participate in next year’s walk.
The goal of the relay each year is to remember those who have died from cancer, to celebrate those who are battling or have successfully battled the disease, and to raise money for cancer research and local programs benefiting cancer patients and their families.
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
