Coats still needed for Christian Center drive
From Staff Reports
Nov 21, 2007 - Good News Christian Center Church still needs a little help to “Give a Little Warmth” to others through its jacket and coat drive before the donated items are distributed Nov. 28.
Donations of new and like-new coats and jackets of all sizes for adults and children may be made, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 27 at MN Resale Store, located at 105 Hinnant St. (between Gilmer and Davis streets at the railroad crossing).
We had a decent start to our coat drive, but it seems to have died out," said Brenda Ray for Good News Christian Center. "We only got one or two coats donated last week. With the biggest shopping day coming up, [we] urge folks to give. It would be a shame to turn away cold, needy families because of a lack of contributions."
The jackets will be presented to men, women and children in the community who “barely make enough to get by and could use a helping hand to stay warm during the cooler months.”
Good News encourages people to “please give based on the thermometer of your heart! Give someone something to be thankful for.”
They ask that donated jackets be clean and free of rips, holes and stains, “something that you would appreciate receiving as a gift yourself."
Ministries and health and welfare organizations in the community will be giving coupons to those in need. Coupons are required to pick up a coat.
Those who have a coupon may pick up the free item at Good News Christian Center, located at 717 West Industrial Drive next to the League Street overpass on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., or until supplies run out. Only one item will be given per coupon, and no items will be held.
