Benefit for Pettys set for Saturday in MG
From Staff Reports
Nov 8, 2007 - The friends and family of Elston and Sylvia Petty of Brashear are hosting a benefit stew and auction to help the Pettys with recent medical bills.
The activities will begin Saturday, Nov. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Miller Grove cafeteria.
We have some really good things for the auction, said Mrs. Petty during a recent visit to the newspaper office. Our trailer is full of items.
Through the years, the Pettys have helped others in times of need. Now, others are helping them.
Mr. Petty had a stroke late last summer, and the couple faces medical bills totaling over $100,000 and mounting costs associated with his illness.
We raised over $700 at our bake sale, Mrs. Petty said. It was amazing.
Along with the stew and the auction, the crowd will be entertained with live music.
The band Night Wings will be playing, featuring Rocky Lennon from Yantis. Lennon and Bob Shelton and Joe Shelton performed at the Reilly Springs Opry back in the 1970s, according to Mrs. Petty.
I might even get up and sing a song or two, she said.
Cost for the stew is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
To donate items for the auction, contact Amy Marshall at 903-473-3752 or Sylvia Petty at 903-520-9124.
