NH Jr. High names Hall valedictorian, Calixto salutatorian of 8th grade class

May 21, 2007 - North Hopkins Junior High has named Chrissy Hall its 8th grade valedictorian and Christian Calixto is salutatorian this year. They will be honored along with the rest of their class in a graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, in the High School Gymnasium. North Hopkins faculty member Janis Thomas will be the commencement speaker.
Chrissy Hall will finish NHJH with a 96.9341 grade point average and Christian Calixto a 95.3187 GPA.
Both Hall and Calixto are active in various extracurricular activities, including University Interscholastic League academic competition and sports.
Hall participated in basketball, softball, track and volleyball, and also enjoys playing soccer and riding horses. Calixto plays basketball, baseball and runs track.
In UIL, Hall earned second in number sense and art, third in math and fourth in ready writing competition, while Calixto earned first in dictionary skills and in maps, graphs and charts, and competed in other events. In previous years, Hall also participated in maps, graphs and charts and dictionary skills competition; she has also participated in the Dallas Morning News Spelling Bee.
The valedictorian is a member of Junior Beta Club and serves as eighth grade vice president. She indicated two outstanding things about her are that she has maintained “perfect attendance all the years” she has attended, and “has never made a B.” She also indicated she works with mentally disabled children.
The salutatorian is an active FFA member, exhibiting goats and chickens at Fall Festival. Calixto is also a Junior Beta Club member. He noted that he enjoys reading and has the distinction of accumulating more than 700 accelerated reading points.
Hall is the daughter of James and Lana Hall, and sister of Tana, Mattie and Conner. She is following in her sister's footsteps; Tana was named NHJH valedictorian last year.
Calixto is the son of Urbano and Gloria Calixto, and brother of Perla and Denise.
