Snider named valedictorian, Olayo salutatorian at Yantis

May 17, 2007 - "Reaching For The Stars" was the theme at this year's Yantis ISD award ceremony held Friday, May 10, in the school cafeteria, and the sky was no limit for one senior in particular.
Jamie Snider, the daughter of Mike and Michelle Boren, finished first in her class earning her paid tuition for her first year of college at the state school of her choice.
In addition to the valedictorian scholarship, Snider received a $350 scholarship for serving as president of Student Council. The Yantis Masonic Lodge #382 granted her a $500 scholarship. She was also awarded a Pepsi Scholarship in the amount of $500, the Lake Fork Lions Club Scholarship of $500, and the Blue/Gold scholarship from Texas A&M University-Commerce in the amount of $8,000. Jamie was also recognized by Tyler Junior College with a medal for her completion of 12 hours of dual credit course.
�I just knew I wanted to do something with my life,� said Jamie, who aspires to be a veteranarian. �I looked around and knew what I didn�t want to be, and that motivated me to work hard and earn some money for college.�
Silvia Olayo was named salutatorian. She was awarded a $500 Faulk-co Scholarship as well as the Leadership Medal from Yantis Masonic Lodge
The other seniors in the Top 10 in the class were Branden Baldridge, Jayna Bevill, Jessica Gomez, Anna Jones, Courtney Leatherwood,Patrick Pace, Jordan Thompson and Rosalinda Vargas. All received paid tuition for four semesters at Tyler Junior College.
Other seniors receiving scholarships included Jayna Bevill, Yantis Masonic Lodge $500 scholarship, and Jordan Thompson, the Bernie Shoemaker $1,000 scholarship and a Yantis/Lake Fork Lions Club $500 scholarship.
