Kindergarten, pre-kindergarten sign-ups to be held Thursday at Cumby Elementary

Mar. 28, 2007 - Cumby Elementary has designated Thursday, March 29, as the day for its prekindergarten and kindergarten roundup for the 2007-2008 school year.
Those planning to register a child in either program will be required to produce needed documentation when enrolling the child. Enrollment will not be considered if the parent/guardian cannot provide all documentation.
Both prekindergarten and kindergarten applicants will be required to present their child's Social Security card, up-to-date shot records and proof of residency in the district, preferably a tax statement.
In order to apply for Pre-K, certain eligibility standards must be met, according to Elementary Principal Shelly Slaughter. Those include students who are unable to speak and comprehend the English language; are educationally disadvantaged; who would be eligible to participate in the national free or reduced price lunch program; are homeless; the child of an active duty member of the U.S. armed forces, including state military forces or reserves who are ordered to active duty; or are the child of a member of the armed forces who was injured or killed while serving on active duty.
When applying, Pre-K candidates should sign in at the cafeteria when they arrive. The child must also be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. Proof of parent/guardian income must also be presented when applying.
Kindergarten students must also be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1.
