Escaped murder suspect apprehended Saturday

Mar. 19, 2007 - The capital murder suspect who escaped from Franklin County jail Friday has been apprehended.

Authorities caught 21-year-old Mark Aaron Rains late Saturday night.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office alerted other local law enforcement agencies after 10 a.m. Friday that Mark Aaron Rains had escaped around 9 a.m. from the Franklin County jail, where he was being held on a warrant for the capital murder of Mount Vernon Bed and Breakfast owner Robert Whiteside.

Franklin County officials advised that Rains was last seen on County Road 3040 in Franklin County at an old, abandoned trailer house. 

Officials from Franklin and surrounding counties, including deputies from Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from Sulphur Springs Texas Department of Public Safety office, all converged in the area into the afternoon hours Friday looking for Rains, with no success until Saturday.
