Hopkins County Relay For Life teams have been busy over the last few weeks, planning fund raising events to raise money for the May 4-5 event and the American Cancer Society.
On Saturday, March 17, Lowe’s Building Center’s team “Lowe’s Rangers” will be holding a yard sale at 700 Lee St. The sale will begin at 7 a.m. and a wide range of items will be offered including bake sale items, lots of toys, clothing, children’s books, appliances, home décor items and small pieces of furniture. The team encourages the community to stop by and “check out all the treasures” offered. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
The Alliance Bank team has already been busy, including hosting a bingo game recently to benefit the HCRFL. The team’s by no means done, however. They have two events coming up which the community can participate in.
The Alliance Bank team will also hold a co-ed softball tournament on March 24. So far, about three teams have turned in their information, and more are needed for a true tourney. Teams players can be 13 and up. The team fee to participate is $100. For more information, contact Jeanette Argenbright or Christy Greer at 903-885-218 for an entry form or more information.
The Alliance Bank Relay For Life Team also plans to hold a hamburger cookout on April 27. They will be asking for a donation of at least $5 for a hamburger, chips, a drink and dessert at lunch.
On Friday, March 23, Hopkins County Relay For Life Committee will hold a purple pail campaign from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the downtown square. People will be asked to give spare change to help fill the purple pail. All money will go directly to the Relay For Life. For more information contact Tony Aguilar at 903-582-2208.
Texas Extension Education Association will also be sponsoring a bean and cornbread fundraiser Saturday, March 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dike Community Center. Cost will be by donation with all funds benefiting Relay For Life. For more information call Joyce Bateman, 903-945-3308.
Another Relay For Life event, a bake sale, will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Dollar General on South Broadway Street. In addition to baked goods, raffles will be held for an Easter basket and a 24-inch flat screen television. For more information about the bake sale and raffle call Sylvia at 903-485-2353.
