Community Players, choral society mounting productions focusing on songs and sounds from The Great White Way
|From Staff Reports|
Jan. 21, 2007 - In the next few days and weeks, the sounds of Broadway will be filling venues in Sulphur Springs, starting with singing auditions Monday for Main Street Theatre and North East Texas Choral Society productions.
Sulphur Springs Community Players are staging a production of the musical "A Tribute to Broadway." Open auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 22-24, at Main Street Theatre, located at 227 Main St. Previous experience in musical theater is not required (but it undoubtedly helps). Call the theater at 903-885-0107 for more information.
North East Texas Choral Society is also holding one last audition Monday for singers for their annual spring concert, which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Civic Center. Auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, where the choral group rehearses Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. until the concert. While the concert isn't exclusively show tunes, Broadway always seems to wend its way onto the set list for the spring show.
The choral society's upcoming Cabaret fundraiser, however, will all about The Great White Way. The NETCS Cabaret will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 10, and will be a masquerade ball featuring songs in a tribute to Broadway. Call 903-884-2949 for more information about auditions or Cabaret, or to make reservations for Cabaret.
