Feb. 13, 2007 - Election officials for Como-Pickton and Sulphur Springs school districts said Tuesday morning that filing was well underway for the May 12 school board elections, with one person filing in Sulphur Springs and two at C-P.

Local attorney Clay Johnson was the only person to file for one of the three full-term at large trustee seats on Sulphur Springs Independent School District's board as of noon Tuesday, the first day of filing for SSISD.

Incumbents Foy Williams, Carolyn Malone Thomas and Norman Sanders had not filed, nor had any of the three indicated definitively whether they planned to seek re-election to the board. Williams and Thomas are completing their first term on the board, while Sanders is finishing his second.

The three seats are for three years each, with the spots awarded to the three candidates receiving the most votes at the conclusion of the May 12 election.

Candidate filing will be conducted weekdays through March 12 in the tax office at SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St. Hours are  Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those applying should see election official Judy Gregg to pick up packets to register.

At Como-Pickton, two of the three school board incumbents had filed for re-election to that board just before noon Tuesday. Gerald Walters and Brad Carr both turned in their packets Tuesday morning. Abbie Wright currently holds the third seat, up for election in May. She had yet to file at midday Tuesday.

Candidate filing for the three full-term seats on Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District's board of trustees will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in the central business office through March 12. The three-year seats will be awarded to the three individuals receiving the  most votes in the May 12 election.
