Feb. 1, 2007 - Peavine Pinion pond at Buford City Park will be the sight for the Larry Buster Sulphur Springs Kids Trout Fishing Day on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.

"Kids of all ages are encouraged to bring their rods, reels and bait," said Kirk Pratas with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. "Whole kernel corn, Berkley power eggs, trout bait and small spinners are generally the favorite baits for trout."

According to Pratas, 2,079 rainbow trout will be stocked by parks and wildlife personnel.

Because this event is sponsored in part by TP&WD, a special exemption will be in effect. Adults who are actively helping kids fish will be exempt from normal license requirements on that day, Pratas explained. All other anglers will be required to have a freshwater fishing license.

There are no minimum size limits on rainbow trout; however, there is a bag limit of five fish per person.

Other sponsors for the event are the city of Sulphur Springs, local merchants, civic organizations, and many individual contributors.

Soft drinks and hot dogs will be provided to participants, and there will be door prizes for kids fishing in the contest.

For more information, call Pratas at 903-593-5077.
