Cumby police seize almost 24 lbs. of cocaine
From Staff Reports
Aug 30, 2007 - An Interstate 30 traffic stop early Wednesday morning by Cumby police resulted in the seizure of nearly 24 pounds of cocaine and one arrest, according to reports.
The incident occurred at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday when Cumby Police Sgt. Charles Walker stopped a white Ford Explorer at the 110 mile marker of I-30 in Cumby for a traffic violation.
After making contact with the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, Walker “observed numerous criminal indicators,” according to reports. The officer asked the driver, identified as 29-year-old J. Natividad Sabala of Dallas, for permission to search the Explorer, and consent was granted.
A large quantity of cocaine was located in “natural void compartments inside the vehicle," and Sabala was arrested for felony possession of cocaine, Walker noted on arrest reports.
The seized cocaine weighed in at 23.75 pounds.
Sabala was arraigned later Wednesday at the county jail. He was released after posting $200,000 bond on the felony cocaine charge, according to jail reports.
