From Staff Reports
Apr. 25, 2007 - If you've got a kid who enjoys fishing, Cooper Lake State Park’s South Sulphur unit is the place to be Saturday morning.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, kids and their families are invited to drag out those fishing poles and tackle boxes that have been collecting dust through the winter, grab some bait, and head on over to the 20th Free Kids All-American Fishing Day at Sunset Cove Fishing Pier located in the South Sulphur park.
"Events like this fishing derby can be a great bonding experience for kids and their families," said Kevin Young, park specialist at Cooper Lake State Park-South Sulphur unit. “The beauty of fishing is that it is an activity that a family can enjoy together for a lifetime.”
This year's free kids fish day will include prize drawings, several contests, including the Zebco kids Casting Carnival, as well as a free goody bag full of fun stuff provided by Texas Parks & Wildlife, Wal-Marts of Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, Zebco, Castrol, Coppertone, Eagle Claw, FLW Outdoors, Fujifilm and Laker Fishing.
Young encourages kids to preregister for the derby at either the Sulphur Springs or Commerce Wal-Mart. They will be allowed to register at the event Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the event.
