Sept. 20, 2006 -- A California Street woman suffered through a harried morning after experiencing one of most parents' worst nightmares: she woke up to discover her preschooler missing.

Fortunately, the incident ended with a safe return of the child, and authorities did not have to issue a full-scale Amber alert.

Police were contacted around 8:30 Wednesday morning by another woman on behalf of the mother, who was too upset to speak to officers when the young boy cold not be found.

Neighbors were contacted in the hope that someone had seen the toddler. When he could not be located, police were contacted.

Neighbors were rallied for several streets, along with police, in a neighborhood search for the child, age 3, last seen wearing a hoody sweatshirt type jacket and blue carpenter pants.

After about 15 minutes of scouring the area, and the mother again searching the house to make sure her son had not simply hidden from her or had returned home, the youngster was found. He apparently left while mom was asleep and wandered a few streets over. He was returned to his parent, safe and unaware of the panic his morning stroll caused, according to police reports.
