One dead in truck-train collision

Sept. 14, 2006 -- One man died and another was seriously injured in a crash this morning after the truck they were in collided with an eastbound train near Cumby.

Gregory Keim, 44, the driver of the four-door Ford pickup truck, died en route to Parkland Hospital in a Texas Life Star helicopter. He was hauling a flatbed gooseneck trailer north over the railroad tracks on County Road 4722, just off the Interstate 30 service road,when the train struck the vehicle around 8:20 a.m.

Miguel Gonzalez, 26, the passenger in the truck, was transported by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Both men are ranch hands for A.K. Gillis & Sons Ranch.

Hopkins County sheriff's officers and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, along with Hopkins County, Miller Grove and Como firefighters, responded to the accident.
