SSHS band brings home top marks from UIL competition
Sulphur Springs High School Fine Arts Department

Oct. 30, 2006 - The Sulphur Springs High School Band ended its competition season by earning straight first division ratings at the UIL Region IV Marching Contest held Friday at Mount Pleasant. Directors for the band said they felt like it was the band’s best performance of the year.

We felt like Fridays performance was the best one the kids had done all year, said SSHS Band Director Charles McCauley. That is saying something, because the weather did not make for ideal conditions. The wind was really blowing and we were worried it would affect the performance. But that didnt happen. Everyone did a super job.

The judges were especially impressed with the level of difficulty of the show and the quality of the marching and playing execution.

Due to the changing nature of marching bands in today’s world, both the music and marching drills are becoming more difficult and sophisticated every year. The SSHS band is following the trend of the bands in the Metroplex by learning more complex shows every year. With only 12 seniors in this year’s group, the future looks bright for the SSHS band.
