Oct. 28, 2006 - Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs will be winging her way to Sulphur Springs Monday evening to show support for a fellow Republican.

Combs is slated to fly in to Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport Monday afternoon, when she is scheduled to endorse Kirby Hollingsworth of Mount Vernon, who is running for District 3 State Representative against incumbent Democrat Mark Homer.

The campaign stop is scheduled to be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The election marks the second time Hollingsworth has challenged Homer, D-Paris for his seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

The two faced off in 2004 when Homer won a fourth term, defeating Hollingsworth by 24,167 votes to 23,854. The district includes Hopkins, Delta, Franklin, Lamar, Red River and Titus counties.

Hollingsworth took 6,274 votes in Hopkins County to 5,210 for Homer.

Combs can be expected to do a little campaigning of her own Monday, as well. She is the Republican Party's nominee for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts office. Combs is being challenged by Democratic Party nominee Fred Head, along with Libertarian candidate Mike Burris.

The comptroller's post is currently held by Carole Keeton Strayhorn, who is running as an independent for governor.
