Political Enlightenment Group schedules election forum Oct. 19

Oct. 13, 2006 - Hopkins County voters will get the opportunity to meet, visit with and hear from local candidates at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, during the Political Enlightenment Group Forum to be held in Heritage Hall at Best Western Trail Dust Inn and Suites.

Local races that are the highlight of political interest in Hopkins County and candidates in each race will be featured at the forum.

Those races include contests between Democratic incumbent Hopkins County Judge Cletis Millsap and Republican challenger Jason Cunningham, and Democratic incumbent Hopkins County Court-at-Law Judge Amy McCorkle Smith and Republican nominee Eddie Northcutt.

A third county race attracting lots of attention is for the office of Hopkins County Treasurer. In that race, assistant county auditor Treva Watson won the Democratic nomination for the office and faces Republican Cheryl Fulcher, coordinator for the 8th Judicial District Court.

The race for state representative between incumbent Democrat Mark Homer and Republican challenger Kirby Hollingsworth will also be featured in the PEG Forum.
