Nov. 20, 2006 - For many, Thanksgiving Day marks a time of togetherness for family and friends. The day after is traditionally the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, which generally results in griping, whiny kids tired from dashing store to store in search of the perfect gift at a bargain price.
For others, Thanksgiving Friday is just another work day for which parents must search for a relative or friend to watch their children.
This year, Northeast Texas Children's Museum in Commerce will, on five days, provide seven fun filled hours of child care for any children 6 years and up, especially for youths whose parents will be shopping or working. The museum will be close Wednesday-Thursday, Nov. 22-23, in observance of Thanksgiving, then re-open on Friday.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, parents can drop children off at the museum in the care of museum staff members, who have a ton of activities and games planned for the youngsters. While snacks will be provided, each child is asked to bring a sack lunch for their noon meal. A $25 fee per child will be assessed for the day's activities and games. Before and after-care will also be available at a cost of $10 extra per hour for working parents.
For those last-minute or post-holiday bargain shoppers and working parents, the Museum will also be open Dec. 22, and Dec. 27, 28 and 29.
The museum is located in the shopping center at the corner of Live Oak Street and State Highway 50 in Commerce.
To make reservations for child care, especially those planning to take advantage of the before and after hours, or for more information about the Thanksgiving and holiday child care, call the museum at 903-886-6055.
