Como-Pickton school has an afternoon of carnival games, entertainment, auctions, lots of fun foods and the revival of old traditions planned for Saturday.
The Family Fun Fest Carnival begins at 3 p.m. and will continue until 6 p.m. at the school, with games for kids of all ages.
Among the planned activities are bingo, a cake walk, bounce houses, hair and face painting, a dunking booth, dog tags, ping-pong toss, duck pond, bean bag toss, car bash, penny drop, marriage booth, jail, train rides and a fun house. There will also be a silent auction and student auction.
And no carnival is complete without pickles, cotton candy, funnel cakes, hot dogs and nachos. In true Hopkins County tradition stew will also be served, alongside burgers and popcorn.
The family afternoon in Como will also include the revived “crowning coronation,” in which students and parents can cast votes for 25 cents each for the coronation candidates, which include one boy and girl from each grade level who was nominated by their peers. Elementary students will compete for duke and duchess titles, while junior high students try to generate enough votes to be named prince or princess, and high school students compete for the king/queen titles.
The crowning will take place at 3:15 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
The community is invited to drop by and enjoy "the tradition of a good old fashioned carnival."
