MAY 22, 2006 - Sulphur Springs/Hopkins County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of the person responsible for a business theft which occurred at Burton's Family Restaurant, located at 1505 East Shannon Road, early Friday morning, according to Sulphur Springs Police Lt. Scotty Sewell.

Altogether, $550 in cash was determined to have been removed from the cash register at the 24-hour business at 2:36 a.m. Friday.

Employees reported hearing the register rattle while working in the kitchen of the business just after 2:30 a.m. Friday. A witness reported seeing the suspect, believed to be a male wearing a dark hooded top, at the cash register acting suspiciously. The suspect then left from the register area and exited the business. Those spotting the man lost sight of him soon after he left the business. Witnesses were unable to give a better description of the suspect because the hood concealed his face and head, as did the rest of his clothing, according to police reports.

Anyone with information about the early morning theft at Burton's or the suspect's whereabouts could earn up to $1,000 by reporting the information to Crime Stoppers, according to Sewell.

Tips can be reported by calling 903-885-2020. Callers do not have to give their name, just their information. Rewards from Crime Stoppers are paid in such a way that the caller's identity remains confidential. If the tip proves instrumental in the arrest of the responsible party, the caller will be rewarded in an amount up to $1,000.
