March 28, 2006 -- With the 2005-2006 school rapidly coming to an end, several local school districts are looking toward next year by designating days for parents to enroll their children in Head Start, prekindergarten and kindergarten classes.
Three schools -- Early Childhood Learning Center, Como-Pickton Elementary and Yantis Elementary -- will be holding roundups for parents to fill out the paperwork to begin the registration process and determine whether their children are eligible for those classes.
Early Childhood Learning Center in Sulphur Springs will hold its annual Head Start, prekindergarten and kindergarten roundup from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7, in the Parent Center at the school, which his located at 390 Hillcrest Drive.
To register in Head Start, a child must first be a Sulphur Springs Independent School District resident and either 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1. Prekindergarten students must also be 4 before Sept. 1, while kindergartners must be 5 years old before Sept. 1.
Parents or guardians registering children for any of the three programs must bring the child's original birth certificate, Social Security Card, immunization records and proof of residence, such as a utility bill.
Those applying for Head Start or prekindergarten programs must also provide original documentation of any disability information and Medicaid card where applicable, as well as proof of parent or guardian income.
