|Adult Education registration|
|From Staff Reports|
June 2, 2006 - Registration for the next adult education classes to begin June 12 at Sulphur Springs Higher Education Center will be conducted next week.
Prospective students must attend all four days of the orientation class in order to enroll. Students may attend either the morning class, which lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; the evening class, which lasts from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; or a combination of morning and evening classes, provided at least one entire session is attended in each of the four days Monday through Thursday, June 5-8.
These sessions are mandatory as state-mandated assessment tests will be administered during this time to determine student-learning levels and needs.
The actual adult education course will be taught Mondays through Wednesdays, at both of the times listed above, at Sulphur Springs Higher Education Center, 1202 Houston St. The class is free of charge for those wishing to refresh skills or to prepare for the GED test. Prospective students must be at least 17 years old in order to attend. Those who are 17, must bring with them a copy of their formal withdrawal form from high school.
Students registering must plan to commit their time to the class, as they can miss no more than three days during the class in order to remain enrolled. Center officials suggest those who are uncertain of schedules or unwilling to commit to the lessons wait to register until they are more certain, according to Nina Alford with the center.
