|SSISD board to discuss insurance, budget in special called meeting tonight|

July 31, 2006 - Trustees for Sulphur Springs Independent School District will meet tonight at 6 p.m. in a special session called, primarily to allow board members to work on the 2006-2007 fiscal budget.
In addition to the budget workshop, board members will hear policy changes outlined by Texas Association of School Boards in Update 78 for school boards to adopt and incorporate into their policies. The policy update will be presented during the administrative reports and informational portion of the board meeting.
School board members will also be asked to consider approval for student accident insurance. The proposal includes estimates on three plans each from two different insurance carriers, Baucom and Baker. Baucom has the current plan which costs $45,994 total utilizing the Premier + plan and includes coverage up to $25,000.
For a maximum $25,000 medical benefit in 2006-2007, the district would pay $59,344 under the Baucom Premier + plan, $35,769 under the Baucom Premier plan, $44,000 under the Baker Plan II-D, $54,000 under Baker Plan 1-A and $29,000 under Baker Plan II-C.
Following the workshop and open portion of the meeting, the board will meet in executive session to discuss in private any personnel or property matters which may have been presented since the last meeting. The board will reconvene following the closed session to take action on any items discussed during executive session.
The special board meeting/budget work session will begin at 6 p.m. tonight in the board room at SSISD Administration Building on Connally Street.
