|Registration for adult education classes|
|From Staff Reports|
Jan. 16, 2006 - Registration will be conducted the week of Jan. 23-26 for adult education classes which begin Jan. 30 at Sulphur Springs Higher Learning Center, 1202 Houston St.
Classes are offered at two different times, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
In order to take advantage of these free courses, either as a means to refresh skills or as preparation for the GED test, students must attend a four-day registration/orientation in order to take state-mandated tests to determine student-learning levels.
Students must also attend all four morning or evening orientation session, or a combination of the two, in order to be accepted as a student. Orientation will be held Jan. 23-26 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at SSHEC.
Students need to realize that registering for GED classes is a serious commitment. One should not register if one is not ready to make that commitment, Nina Alford for SSHEC-Paris Junior College said. After this registration, classes will start the following week. To remain enrolled, a student may miss no more than three days. After all, the more concentrated time spent on lessons, the sooner ones goals can be realized.
Prospective students must also be 17 years old or older. Students who are only 17 must bring with them a copy of their formal withdrawal from high school.
