Dec. 22, 2006 - Hopkins County Relay for Life will begin next year on what committee members hope is a high note with the official kickoff luncheon for the annual fund raiser.
The kickoff begins at 10 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Lake Pointe Church, located at 816 Gilmer St. between Brookshire's and Blockbuster and across the street from O'Reilly Auto Parts,
"This date is the official day to register teams that would like to participate in the event on May 4 and 5 at the Sulphur Springs Middle School track," said Tony Aguilar, co-chair of the 2007 Hopkins County Relay for Life.
The kickoff is to be a come-and-go function in which team captains will register their teams. As an added incentive, team captains are encouraged to "come hungry," as lunch will be provided for those who arrive during their lunch hour.
Information about the spring relay will be available for those interested in starting a team or anyone wishing to sponsor a team or otherwise contribute to the event.
For more information about the relay kickoff, contact Tony Aguilar at 903-582-2208 or 903-243-9402, or Mynder L. Kelly at 903-439-6399.
Last year’s Relay For Life “only” raised $124,535.64, despite being rained out early by thunderstorms. The event is regularly among the largest fundraisers of its kind among similary sized cities in the nation.
