Dec. 21, 2006 - Like most businesses, the city and county government and business offices have slated two days each in which they will be closed in observance of Christmas.
The city of Sulphur Springs, including city hall, the municipal court and the records and administrative offices at the police station, will be closed on Friday and Monday to allow city employees to enjoy the holiday with family.
City police will continue to be on duty and can be reached to report offenses through the main dispatch line, 903-885-7602. Emergencies should be reported via 911.
Sulphur Springs police dispatchers regularly field dozens and dozens of calls about routine city matters during the holidays. People who have non-emergency business with the city, such as questions about water bills, will need to contact the appropriate city department on Tuesday.
All county business and administrative offices will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 25-26, in observance of the holiday. Those closings include the offices at the courthouse, the constables, the county attorney, the county clerk's office, district attorney, auditors and administrative offices at the sheriff's department.
Echo Publishing Company's offices and operations, including the News-Telegram, will be closed on Christmas day to allow staff to spend the holiday with their families. Consequently no newspaper will be published on Monday.
Banks and the postal service are also closed on Christmas day.
