Name of deputy who fired fatal shot released

Dec. 7, 2006 - Texas Ranger Phillip Kemp on Wednesday identified Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Fenimore as the officer involved in the fatal shooting of Terri Hill Minty, 35, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.

Fenimore and three other officers had  responded to a report of a burglary on County Road 2307 on Nov. 28. Minty, who was identified as a suspect in the break-in, walked out of the house holding a shotgun, and was shot once after pointing the weapon at the officers at least twice, according to Chief Sheriff’s Investigator Andy Chester, who was at the scene withLt. Dan Mitchell and deputies Dennis Findley and Fenimore.

Authorities did not release the name of the deputy who fired the fatal shot in the days following the incident. The News-Telegram filed a formal open records request for the information.
