Aug. 10, 2006 -- A Winnsboro man continues to be listed in critical condition at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler following a truck-train collision Friday on the outskirts of Como.
Investigating Highway Patrol Trooper Bill Reese said Paul Duncan, 37, was on the way to deliver a truck load of feed to a dairy when he drove into the path of the train.
"I am really not sure exactly why he kept going," Trooper Reese said. "Witnesses said the train was blowing its horn and he just drove right up on the track and did not make it."
Reese said the force of the impact destroyed the feed truck.
"The frame and the two back axles, it wrapped them around the front of the [train] engine," he said. "It knocked the front axle into a fence line, knocked the motor out of the truck and just demolished the cab."
Duncan was flown by helicopter from the accident scene to the Tyler hospital.
The trooper said the investigation into the accident was still not complete.
