PJC agriculture department now offering ag production operations certificate emphasizing ‘hands-on’ skills
From Staff Reports

Aug. 8, 2006 -- David McAnally, dean of workforce education at Paris Junior College, has announced a new certificate program that is now being offered in the PJC agriculture department.

A Certificate of Completion in Agriculture Production Operations has been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and is now available for student enrollment.

The new certification emphasizes "hands-on" skills to be used in crop and livestock production, according to McAnally. Full-time students can complete the requirements for the certification in three semesters. Most students will be able to finish the program in a year.

Students will receive hands-on training in crop science, food science, horticulture, animal science, farm and ranch shop, and entomology. Courses in Computer Science for Agriculture; Agricultural Economics and Marketing; and Livestock Evaluation round out the student's education.
