Spelling team headed for state UIL contest
Second SSHS team waits for word on wild card status

April 25, 2006 -- One student and a team from Sulphur Springs High School advanced to the state academic University Interscholastic League meet in May by taking top scores at the  Region 2A Academic UIL meet held Saturday.

Another team is awaiting confirmation of their status as a wild card team, which would allow them to also compete at the state meet.

Making up the first ranked spelling and vocabulary team which competed at the regional meet at the University of North Texas in Denton were Andrew Watley, Logan McQueen, Kayla Morgan and Jerrell Allen.

Watley was also recognized for advancing with a first place individual finish in the spelling and vocabulary contest and fourth fifth place in headline writing and calculator applications at the regional contest. McQueen placed sixth in the contest.

Laura Ream, Rachel Ming, Jessica Black and Mercades Brown make up the second-ranked accounting team, which is currently waiting to determine whether they will be confirmed as the wild card for the state meet. Ream placed fourth individually in accounting at the meet and Ming sixth.

Jessica Peoples and Brandon Woolley were also recognized. Peoples placed fifth in computer applications and Woolley took sixth in prose.
