SSHS students collecting money, supplies for survivors

Sept. 2, 2005 -- Students from Sulphur Springs High School students have joined the relief effort to assist survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The SSHS Young Republicans and Young Democrats have joined forces to collect money and supplies to assist the victims beginning today through Friday, Sept. 16. 

SSHS students wishing to contribute may turn in money to their third period teachers or deposit donations of the following in the box set up outside the band hall to assist victims sheltered at Wesley United Methodist Church: paper plates, plastic eating utensils, 6 ounce and 16 ounce cups, regular and decaffinated coffee, paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, towels, wash cloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby formula, baby food, diapers, other personal hygiene items, large trash bags, dishwashing liquid.

Also TV/VCR or TV/DVD combination sets, movies, dominoes, cards and games are being sought. 

Monetary donations may be made in cash or as checks made out to Hopkins County Salvation Army Disaster Relief. Young Republicans and Young Democrats will pick up these funds on Wednesday and Friday from third period teachers for the local relief efforts.
