SSHS golf team finishes in third place at North Lamar Fall Invitational

Oct. 31, 2005 - Dustin Gideon fired a double-eagle on a par-5 hole last Tuesday to lead the SSHS golf team to a third-place finish at the North Lamar Fall Invitational.

Gideon, a junior at SSHS, carded a round of 75 which tied him for fifth overall in the individual standings.

Senior Chase Helm shot a 79 and senior Seth Northcutt fired an 80. Sam Dolan and Rob Russell each shot an 88 as the Wildcats totaled 322, which was third in the 11-team tourney. That was one stroke behind second-place Texas High. North Lamar won the tournament with a 298.

"We look at the fall tournaments as the tune-ups for our game because we treat the gall as our off-season, conditioning/training program," said coach Doug Evans. "These tournaments are important to us, though, to put ourselves in a more competitive atmosphere."

The SSHS JV came in 10th in the standings with a 386. Robby Moore led the team with a 90, while Lane McClung shot a 93, Lance Knotts a 99, Price Orwosky a 104, and Brooks Roberts a 110.

The team results are: 1. North Lamar varsity 298; 2. Texas High 321; 3. Sulphur Springs varsity 322; 4. North Lamar JV 324; 5. Atlanta 329; 6. Paris varsity 330; 7. Pleasant Grove varsity 341; 8. North Lamar No. 3 358; 9. Pleasant Grove JV 359; 10. Sulphur Springs JV 386; 11. Paris JV 428.
